ASTHMA

Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways to the lungs characterized by recurrent reversible airway obstruction. It can cause serious wheezing & breathlessness.

• Dry, spasmodic cough & persistent cough is the most common symptom
• Coughing, especially in the evening or night, or when laughing or during exercise.
• Shortness of breath
• Wheezing or whistling sound made when breathing
• Tightness in the chest
• Fatigue

• Childhood Asthma- Asthma in children is known as childhood asthma. Its triggering factors, frequency, duration & intensity vary from child to child.
• Adult-onset Asthma – Some people do not show any signs of asthma until they are adults, in which case It is called adult-onset asthma. Some triggering factors are animal dander, chemical fumes, or viral infection that leads to a cough that sticks around for a week.
• Allergic Asthma – Allergies can trigger asthma. Allergens such as animal dander, dust, pollen, etc. can trigger an asthma attack in people with allergies.
• Occupational Asthma – If an asthmatic attack occurs due to the occupation of the person, it is termed occupational asthma. Occupational asthma worsens in people who work around chemical fumes or other irritants in the air at metal plants, plastic plants, wood factories, painting work sites, etc.
• Exercise-induced Asthma – In many cases, a patient’s physical activity or workout can trigger an acute attack of asthma. There is shortness of breath, tightness of chest, and cough within a few minutes of workouts.

• Asthma in children is called childhood asthma or asthmatic bronchitis. Its triggering factors, duration, and intensity are different in different kids.

  Symptoms:

  • Constant coughing, either spasmodic or barking cough or violent cough. Quality of cough either productive or dry
  • Coughing, especially at night
  • Rapid or labored breathing
  • Difficulty eating or sucking
  • Wheezing sound when exhaling

  • Feeling tired after physical activities
